Female carpet weavers of Afghanistan's Badakhshan region are facing regular challenges despite working hard regularly to create their handicrafts due to the lack of a carpet processing center and a suitable market for selling them.

“We don’t have a good place for washing carpets and when they are transferred to Kunduz province it costs us a lot,” Nadia, a carpet weaver, told Tolo News as she expressed the challenges faced regularly by them in carrying out the craft.

“We face challenges and we lack some materials,” another carpet weaver Fawzia told the news portal.

“We don’t have a carpet processing market and don’t have a specific place to work there,” Farzana shared.

Officials of the carpet weaver’s union in Badakhshan told the news portal that currently, four thousand women are busy with carpet weaving in this province.

“Four thousand women are busy with carpet weaving, they work with us for two years and after that, they graduate and we give them a certificate,” said Abdul Ali, the head of the carpet weavers union in Badakhshan.
