Kabul, Nov 30 (IBNS): A Taliban ambush in Afghanistan's Shindand district left the intelligence chief for western Herat province killed, media reports said on Friday.

The intelligence chief was killed after 35 Taliban militants were killed during an infighting in the area, reports said.

Taliban gunmen loyal to rival commanders clashed in Joy Qazi, Deh Mirza Qasim, Deh Aman and Abdal Abad areas of the Shindand district on Thursday afternoon, leaving 35 fighters dead on both sides, the governor’s spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Jilani Farhad told Pajhwok Afghan News the clashes broke out between Mullah Samad, who is loyal to Taliban supreme leader Mullah Haibatullah and Mullah Nangyali loyal to Mullah Rassoul splinter group.

The provincial intelligence chief, Maj Matin, was killed after Taliban gunmen ambushed a convoy of security forces heading to the scene, reported the Afghanistan-based news agency.

The Taliban has confirmed about the infighting in the region.
