Afghanistan: Wolesi Jirga candidate shot dead in southern Ghazni

Kabul, Oct 1 (IBNS): Unidentified gunmen shot dead a Wolesi Jirga candidate in Afghanistan's southern Ghazni province, media reports said on Monday.

Governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Arif Noori, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Haji Mohammad Daud, a Wolesi Jirga candidate and a trader, was found dead in Mughlan area of Ghazni city, the provincial capital, on Saturday.

He told the news agency that the attackers first beat up the candidate and then killed him.

His body was recovered on Saturday, reports said.

His family identified his body later, media reports said.

The Wolesi Jirga elections in Afghanistan is scheduled to take place on Oct 20.

The House of the People or Wolesi Jirga, abbreviated WJ, is the lower house of the bicameral National Assembly of Afghanistan, alongside the upper House of Elders.
