Awami League leader hacked to death

Dhaka: Unknown attackers hacked to death a Awami League leader in Bangladesh's Nabiganj upazila, media reports said on Friday.

The deceased person is identified as Kamal Mia.

Mohammad Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nabiganj Police Station, told The Daily Star Kamal Mia came to Shibganj Bazar of Nabiganj upazila on Wednesday evening to perform the namaz-e-janaza of a person. On his way back, a group that police and locals believe are political rivals attacked him near Shibganj.

He was injured in the attack.

Locals rescued and took him to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital and later to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the duty doctor declared him dead.
