Dhaka/UNI: Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has expelled 26 students, 25 of  whom are charged with killing a fellow student Abrar Fahad last month, reported Dhaka Tribune.

Many of the charge-sheeted students are associated with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student wing of the ruling Awami League.

BUET Board of Residence and Discipline took the decision based on the report submitted by a probe committee formed over Abrar murder, a release issued by BUET said on Thursday.

Abrar was beaten to death by some fellow students on October 7 inside the hostel, sparking protests.

The university on October 11 had banned all political activities on campus and suspended 19 students accused in the case.

BUET students continued to boycott classes even after they called off their strike on October 15.

On Thursday, Law Minister Anisul Haq assured that the trial of the case will be held under speedy trial tribunal for swift proceedings.
