Former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa expect to fly to Thailand soon: Reports

| @indiablooms | Aug 10, 2022, at 11:54 pm

Colombo: Thailand has received a request from former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to visit the country, media reports said.

Thailand said the former Sri Lankan President has no intention to seek political asylum in the country.

Ministry spokesperson Tanee Sangrat told Daily Mirror that  Thailand saw no problem with Rajapaksa entering on a diplomatic passport, which would allow him to stay 90 days.

He did not clearly say when he is going to visit the nation.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa escaped Sri Lanka last month amid protests.

He even resigned from his post after escaping Sri Lanka.

The nation of 22 million people is struggling under a severe foreign exchange shortage that has limited essential imports of fuel, food and medicine, plunging the country into the worst economic crisis in decades.
