Hamid Mir attack: PM orders judicial inquiry

Islamabad, Apr 20 (IBNS) A day after celebrity Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir was shot at by unknown armed men in Karachi city, country's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered a judicial inquiry into the attack, media reports said on Sunday.

"A three member judicial commission will be formed to conduct the probe. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting summoned by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to discuss the attack on Hamid Mir," Geo News reported.

"The federal government has also announced Rs10 million award for information leading to the arrest of Hamid Mir’s attackers. The identity of the person providing the information will not be disclosed," it said.

Hamid Mir was injured after he was shot at by four unknown armed men in Pakistan's Karachi city on Saturday.

Hamid Mir is a news anchor, terrorism expert, and security analyst who regularly participates in international conferences. He is also known for his columns in Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, and English newspapers and hosts a popular political talk show Capital Talk on Geo TV.

He was banned from TV by the military regime of General Pervez Musharraf in 2007 and was again banned by the Zardari-led Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) government in June 2008.

But later he was awarded Pakistan high civil decoration Hilal-i-Imtiaz by President Zardari under the PPP government.

In 2012,  Hamid Mir, had a miraculous escape after his driver spotted just in time a bag inside his car with explosives.
