India needs to play its role for peace in Afghanistan: Pakistan
Islamabad, Dec 10 (IBNS): Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said India and other regional countries needed to play their roles to end the 17-year-old Afghan war, The Dawn said.
Referring to the issue as a "shared responsibility", Qureshi said: "Since India is present in Afghanistan, its cooperation in this regard will also be required."
The foreign minister said meeting with the intention to bring peace in Afghanistan had talready taken place in Qatar and the UAE.
"All the stakeholders, including the United States, Afghanistan and the Taliban, are on board," he said.
The Pakistan minister said he hoped India would agree to resume talks and added the opening of the Kartarpur border on Pakistan's side had created goodwill for the country globally.
In a recent interview to The Washington Post, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said India's ruling party had rejected all his repeated calls for peace since India is just months away from voting to elect a new Parliament.
"I know, because India has elections coming up. The ruling party has an anti-Muslim, anti-Pakistan approach. They rebuffed all my overtures," he had said.
