Kabul/Xinhua: Unidentified armed men shot and killed a key airport police officer on Friday in the latest targeted attack in Afghanistan, reported local media on Saturday.

The incident happened in Sayyed Noor Mohammad Shah Mina, an area in Police District 8 of Kabul, where unknown armed men attacked and killed Seraj-ul-Haq, one of the battalion captains of Hamid Karzai International Airport, Tolo News TV reported.

At least five people have been killed in the first five days of September, part of targeted attacks that claimed lives of 35 others in August this year.

Civilians supporting government, civil servants, religious leaders, tribal elders and persons involved in the peace and reconciliation efforts have been the victims of the targeted killings in recent months.
