Islamabad: Two militants were killed in an exchange of fire with police in Peshawar, the capital city of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police said on Saturday.

The CTD and security forces conducted a joint operation according to information shared by intelligence agencies regarding the presence of militants from a banned outfit in the Waliabad area of the city, killing two most wanted terrorists, the CTD in Peshawar said in a statement.

The killed militants are said to include the mastermind of the terrorist attack on a mosque in Peshawar that killed over 60 people and injured nearly 200 others in March this year.

Police said that a huge cache of arms and ammunition was also seized during the operation.
