Pakistan: PTI supporters raise 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' slogan against country's army following Imran Khan's ouster
Islamabad: A slogan 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' buzzed in the air as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters demonstrated in a city recently following the ouster of Imran Khan after a no-trust motion against him in the country's National Assembly recently.
The rally was being addressed by former interior minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed. The crowd shouted the slogan at the time.
The slogan appeared to have been raised against the Pakistan Army for having 'stolen' Imran Khan's mandate, reports India Today news channel.
Sheikh Rashid Ahmed quickly asked the crowd not to raise such slogans and emphasised that they would "fight with peace".
The slogan traces back to India when in 2019 Congress chief had targeted PM Narendra Modi by shouting it during poll rallies.
In fact, Rahul Gandhi even faced contempt charges over the phrase in 2019 when he wrongly attributed it to the Supreme Court. The court later closed the proceedings against him after he apologised unconditionally, reports India Today.
