Islamabad: Creating history, Pushpa Kohli has become the first girl belonging to the Hindu community to be inducted into the Sindh police in Pakistan after clearing her provincial competitive examination.

Pakistan's human rights activist Kapil Dev took to Twitter to share the news.

"Excellent News: Pushpa Kolhi has become the first girl from #Hindu community who has qualified provincial competitive examination through Sindh Public Service Commission and become Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) in Sindh Police. More power to her!" Dev tweeted.

In another tweet, Dev said he is "glad" that Kohli is now at the centre of international media's attention.

He tweeted, "I am glad that my tweet about #PushpaKolhi is now an international news in over 20 media outlets. Thank u, media friends for giving credit to me & using my tweet in the news story. Those who want to do a detailed story, I can connect u with her family."

The news came days after a Sikh girl was allegedly kidnapped, converted and forcefully married to a Muslim man in Pakistan.
