Pakistan releases Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar from custody

Islamabad: Amid heightened tension between India and Pakistan over Kashmir, Pakistan has released Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar from protective custody, media reports said.

Months after he was arrested, Pakistan has once again released wanted terrorist and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar, reported Times Now.

According to the news channel, the IB input also reportedly warned of possible terror attacks in India.

The Indian security forces along these border areas have been put on high alert following the intelligence inputs, Times Now reported.

Azhar's Jaish-e-Mohammed  has been in the news in recent times over the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama area which left 40 Indian CRPF personnel killed.

In a major diplomatic victory for India, the UNSC in May this year designated Azhar as global terrorist after China dropped its objection to the same.

Besides India, the US, UK and France had also put pressure on China to change its stand.

Kashmir Affairs:

On Aug 6, Indian Parliament passed a statutory resolution removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and the J&K Reorganisation Bill, 2019 which bifurcated the state.

J&K has been made a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly, along with UT status to Ladakh without a Legislative Assembly.

Since then Indian-administered Kashmir is under heavy security cover and restrictions.

Relationship between India and Pakistan had already touched new lows earlier this year following the Pulwama terror attack incident. Kashmir move of India added fuel to the raging fire.
