Pakistan: Suicide blast in Quetta leaves 29 killed
Islamabad, July 25 (IBNS): On a day Pakistan votes to elect its next Prime Minister, a suicide blast outside a polling station near Eastern Bypass in Quetta region of the country left at least 29 people killed on Wednesday, media reports said.
The deceased included three cops and two children.
The blast left 35 others injured.
Rescue sources told Pakistan's Geo News the explosion occurred near a police vehicle on routine patrolling.
"The suicide bomber blew himself up when police and FC personnel stopped him from entering the station," the official told the news channel.
Following the blast, voting was suspended temporarily at the polling station.
It resumed later on.
According to media reports, the number of the voters remained low following the blast.
Pakistan votes to elect new Prime Minister:
Amid tight security, Pakistan is voting to elect a new national and several provincial assemblies on Wednesday.
The election will also decide who will be the next Prime Minister of the south Asian nation.
Pakistan's nearly 106 million registered voters are expected to vote on Wednesday.
PTI chief Imran Khan condemns attack:
Pakistani politician Imran Khan condemned and tweeted: "Condemnable terrorist attack in Quetta by enemies of Pak seeking to disrupt our democratic process. Saddened by the loss of innocent lives. Pakistanis must defeat the terrorists' design by coming out in strength to cast their vote."
