| @indiablooms | Nov 19, 2018, at 04:20 pm

Islamabad, Nov 19 (IBNS): The Pakistan Foreign Office on Saturday confirmed that Pakistani student Usama Ahmad Khan had committed 'suicide' in China.

Khan was the student of Shenyang Jianzhu University in China.

The Foreign Office confirmed that the Pakistani was not beaten to death as depicted in what it said was a "fake" video being circulated online.

In a video making the rounds on the internet, a man alleged to be Usama, can be seen lying prostrate on a street with a trio of people pinning him down and hitting him multiple times, reported Dawn News.

However, in a statement, the Pakistani Foreign Office on Monday clarified: "A Pakistani student Mr. Usama Ahmad Khan committed suicide at Shenyang city in Liaoning province in China. He was a student of Shenyang Jianzhu University. "

"There is a need to respect sensitivity and privacy, especially of the bereaved family. The video being circulated on the social media is fake and is not that of Mr. Usama Ahmad Khan. We request all to help us in exercising caution in such matters, avoiding sensationalism and stopping spreading of 'fake news'," it said.

Following is the full statement issued by the Pakistani Foreign Office:

"A Pakistani student Mr. Usama Ahmad Khan committed suicide at Shenyang city in Liaoning province in China. He was a student of Shenyang Jianzhu University.

Upon receipt of information, the Ambassador of Pakistan to China deputed an officer of the Embassy to visit Shenyang. In Shenyang, he met students and faculty of the University, as well as, the police authorities. Throughout this process, he remained in close contact with the family of the deceased and got full support of Chinese authorities.

In close coordination with the family, the Mission will send the dead body to Pakistan. The body was transported from Liaoning province to Beijing in the morning of 17 November, 2018. All arrangements are now in place for transportation of the dead body to Pakistan tonight.

There is a need to respect sensitivity and privacy, especially of the bereaved family. The video being circulated on the social media is fake and is not that of Mr. Usama Ahmad Khan. We request all to help us in exercising caution in such matters, avoiding sensationalism and stopping spreading of 'fake news'."
