New Delhi/Peshawar, Dec 16 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to express his 'deep condolences' over the attacks carried out by militants at a school in Peshawar city which killed at least 141 people.

Pakistan Prime Minister's daughter Maryam Nawaz Sharif tweeted: "Indian Prime Minister Modi called Prime Minister Sharif & expressed his deep condolences on the tragic death of innocent school children."

She said Afghanistan president Ashraf Ghani has also called Sharif over the attack.

"Afghan President called Prime Minister Sharif to express his condolences on the unfortunate incident in Peshawar today," she said in another tweet.

Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condemned the terrorist attack at an Army Public School and College.

Mukherjee has expressed deep anguish and strongly condemned the killing of innocent school children and teachers by terrorists in the Army Public School in the Pakistani city.

The President said such heinous acts are against all tenets of humanity.

"They are nothing but a manifestation of the extreme evil that terrorists are capable of. The world community must unite and redouble efforts to root out terrors from every country and society," Mukherjee said.

The President conveyed his condolences to the grieving families and prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

Condemning the attack, Prime Minister Narendra said: "Strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack at a school in Peshawar. It is a senseless act of unspeakable brutality that has claimed lives of the most innocent of human beings - young children in their school. My heart goes out to everyone who lost their loved ones today. We share their pain and offer our deepest condolences."

A day-long brutality by six militants at the Army Public School and College in Peshawar city has killed 141 people including 132 children and 9 staff members of the school.
