Taiwan: Five Chinese military planes enter ADIZ

Taipei: As many as five Chinese military planes entered Taiwan’s air defence identification zone (ADIZ) on Thursday, media reports said.

This was the eighth intrusion this month.

Four People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) Shenyang J-16 fighter jets and one Shaanxi Y-8 anti-submarine warfare plane flew into the southwest corner of Taiwan’s ADIZ, according to the Ministry of National Defense (MND), Taiwan News reported.

In response, Taiwan sent aircraft, issued radio warnings, and deployed air defense missile systems to monitor the PLAAF planes, the newspaper reported.

Twenty-eight Chinese planes have been tracked in Taiwan’s identification zone so far this month, comprising 18 fighter jets and 10 low-flying turboprops, reports Taiwan News.

Since September last year, China has increased its use of greyzone tactics by routinely sending aircraft into Taiwan’s ADIZ, with most occurrences taking place in the southwest corner of the zone, the news portal reported.
