Kabul: Over 70 people died or were injured in Afghanistan on Friday night as Taliban fighters  opened gunshots in the air as part of their celebration, media reports said.

Emergency hospital based in Kabul confirmed 17 dead bodies and 40 wounded people have been rushed to the hospital on Friday night, September 4, reports Khaama Press.

Unconfirmed reports from the eastern Jalalabad city of Nangarhar province read that 17 people have been killed and wounded in last night’s gunshots, the news agency reported.

According to local news agency Asvaka, the Taliban members resorted to open gun firing to celebrate what they thought to be  the collapse of Panjshir province.

It is the only region in the country that has resisted the Taliban so far.

As the United States has withdrawn its troops from the country after 20 years, insurgent group Taliban invaded Afghanistan almost completely on Aug 15 by storming into the capital city of Kabul.

Following the invasion, men, women rushed to the Kabul Airport in a desperate attempt to flee the country and take refuge in other parts of the country.
