Dhaka: Pro-liberation forces and liberal minded NGOs of Bangladesh, a nation which had sacrificed lives and faced tortures to gain their independence from Islamabad in 1971, hosted countrywide events to observe 'Black Day' on Friday to mark the brutal invasion of India's Jammu and Kashmir by Pakistan over seven decades ago and the mindless atrocities committed on the people.

Black Day is observed to mark the sacrifices made by countless Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims to defeat the invasion of the erstwhile Princely State by the Pakistan Army in 1947, often touted as the tribal invasion.

The events were held in the country at a time when Bangladesh witnessed a series of attacks and violence committed against minority Hindu community members following alleged instigations by Pakistan-backed Jamaat-e-Islami.

Several Durga Puja pandals and Hindu temples were vandalised by attackers across the nation.

"Swadhinata Sangram Parishad" successfully demonstrated in front of the Pakistan High Commission here.

Photo exhibitions and wall writing were seen in Dhaka University campus where around 2000 students and passers-by witnessed them.

In the university, a discussion meeting was held on the issue which was attended by 250 participants. Documentary was screened at 0545 pm.

A seminar was held to mark the day at Dhaka Reporters Unity which was attended by 70-80 people.

A group named Open Dialogue Bangladesh organized a human chain in Dhaka to show their unity with the victims of Oct 22, 1947.

Similar human chain was also arranged in Brahmanbaria. Around 200 people joined the event hosted by Udichi group.

The Bangladesh Conscious Citizen Committee members protested in Dinajpur.
