Kabul: The UN Secretary General’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, held a meeting with the acting Taliban Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, where the issue of missing women was raised, media reports said.

Muttaqi assured that the matter will be resolved soon.

"Global outrage over the fate of missing Afghan women activists conveyed today to Taliban de facto @MoFA_Afg Muttaqi. He assured @DeborahLyonsUN
of efforts to resolve the issue. His constructive approach was welcomed. UN continues to engage Taliban to support welfare & rights of all Afghans," UNAMA tweeted.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres also voiced his concern over the issue and tweeted: "I am increasingly concerned about the well-being of missing women activists in Afghanistan. Several have ‘disappeared’, some not heard from in weeks.I strongly urge the Taliban to ensure their safety so that they can return home."

The Taliban came to power in Afghanistan last year on Aug 15.

The Taliban captured power in Kabul in a swift pace after the foreign forces started leaving the nation.
