UN welcomes safe return of abducted staffers in Pakistan
New York, Apr 22 (IBNS): The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) confirmed on Monday that two of its national staff who were abducted last Thursday in the Pakistani port city of Karachi are now safe and well.
“The whole UN family in Pakistan welcomes their safe return,” the world body said in a statement.
The two staff went missing on the evening of 17 April. When no contact with the staff members was possible, local police were alerted.
The police led the investigation, in close contact with UNICEF and the staff members’ families.
“Our colleagues are safe and well, and are being supported by UNICEF’s Karachi office, and hope to be afforded privacy as they recover from their ordeal,” the statement added.
