'I was living in denial': Ex-Microsoft employee takes 30-day challenge to land a higher-paying job after layoff

New Delhi/IBNS: A former Microsoft employee has shared his experience of being laid off by the tech giant in an Instagram Reel that has struck an emotional chord with social media users.

Rahul Kaushik described his initial disbelief after losing his job, particularly as the development came shortly before Diwali.

"This was surprising," he said, expressing shock over the unexpected setback.

Former Microsoft employee recalls being in denial

In the Reel, Rahul recalled that when the human resources (HR) team informed him about the layoff, he initially believed he would be able to find another job, given his professional experience at Amazon and Microsoft.

However, reality began to sink in the following day when he was unable to access the official system and discovered that his Microsoft email ID was no longer valid.

Rahul said he had initially been living in "denial" and had not fully grasped the impact of losing his job.

"I did not imagine how my life is going to change after this," he added.

Rahul takes on 30-day job challenge

Despite the setback, Rahul said he was determined to treat the situation as a challenge rather than give up.

He announced that he would send his CV to companies regularly as part of a 30-day challenge to secure a new job with a salary higher than what he earned at Microsoft.

Ex-Microsoft employee to share career updates

Rahul also said he would regularly share updates on his job search and career journey with his followers on social media.

His account comes amid fresh job cuts announced by Microsoft, bringing renewed attention to the uncertainty faced by employees in the technology sector.
