West Bengal confirms 23 fresh Covid-19 cases, death toll touches 12
Apr 18, 2020, at 05:55 pmWith 23 new confirmed Covid-19 cases reported in past 24 hours, the number of active Covid-19 positive cases in West Bengal has reached 178 while the death count in the state has mounted to 12, state Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha said on Saturday.
"Seven Covid-19 patients were discharged in last 24 hours, taking the total number of persons recovered from coronavirus infections in the state to 62," CS Rajiva Sinha said.
"Presently 3858 persons are in hospital isolation while 35,209 people have been kept under home quarantine," Rajiva Sinha added.
Explaining the situation in Covid-19 hotspot Howrah, Chief Secretary said that 580 samples were tested from the sensitive zones of the district.
Punjab ACP dies of Novel Coronavirus
Apr 18, 2020, at 04:33 pmLudhiana (North) Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Anil Kohli passed away here on Saturday due to Novel Coronavirus.
Kohli was admitted in Satguru Partap Singh (SPS) hospital here, after his samples were tested positive for COVID-19 on April 13.
As his condition deteriorated a couple of days ago, the 52-year-old PPS officer was put on ventilator.
Hospital sources said the ACP died due to multiple organ failure before he could be administered the plasma therapy.
His five contacts, including his wife Kajal Kohli, his driver Prabhjot Singh, Jodhewal SHO Sub-Inspector Arshpreet Kaur, ASI Sukhdev Singh and District Mandi Officer Jasbir Kaur, had also contracted the virus and have been quarantined.
Police constable tests positive in Telangana

A police constable from Rangareddy district in Telangana on Saturday tested positive for COVID-19 taking the total number of positive cases in the state to 767.
The constable was on duty at the state-run Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad recently, according to official sources.
The state has reported 18 COVID-19 deaths so far.
Meanwhile,Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao will chair a cabinet meeting on Sunday to review the COVID-19 situation in the state and during the meeting the Cabinet is expected to discuss the measures being taken to contain the spread of coronavirus and implementation of lockdown.
The cabinet is also expected to take a call whether to continue the lockdown strictly till May three or give some concessions after April 20.
COVID-19: Sarbananda Sonowal requests Conrad Sangma to ensure hassle-free transportation of vehicles

In view of the situation created by COVID-19 and its fallout in the northeast, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday requested his Meghalaya counterpart Conrad Sangma to ensure hassle-free transportation of the vehicles carrying essential commodities from Guwahati to Barak Valley and vice versa through Meghalaya.
In a telephonic conversation with Sangma, Sonowal said that since vehicles carrying essential commodities for the locked down Barak Valley pass through the territory of Meghalaya, a helping hand from the authorities of Meghalaya enables the Assam government to reach out to the people of Barak Valley faster.
Sangma assured Sonowal of taking adequate steps for ensuing seamless transportation of essential commodities through Meghalaya without any disruption.
Both the Chief Ministers also talked over the situation created by the Corona pandemic and steps taken by both the neighbouring states to contain the outbreak.

Meghalaya on Saturday reported two more positive cases for the deadly Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19.
Both persons are the family members and helpers of the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state who died early on Apr 15.
A 69-year-old senior doctor of a Shillong based hospital was tested positive for COVID-19 on Apr 13.
The latest report has been confirmed by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.
"Two more positive cases detected taking the total to 10 active cases in the State. Both cases are from the house of the first patient one is family and other a helper in the house," Sangma tweeted.

Centre asks states to track Rohingya refugees over COVID-19 concerns
Apr 18, 2020, at 12:16 amThe Union Home Ministery has directed all state government to trace and screen all the Rohingya Muslim refugees over concerns that they may have come in contact with members of the Islamic missionary group Tablighi Jamaat, which emerged as a hotspot of Coronavirus outbreak in India, media reports said.
The Ministry has directed all state police chief to conduct an intensive search to locate the Rohinga refugees as many are reportedly missing from their designated camps.
"All contacts of Rohingyas need to be screened on priority basis and necessary measures need to be taken," the alert sent out to states and union territories said, NDTV reported quoting sources.

UP sends 300 buses to Rajasthan's Kota to bring back students amid lockdown

According to reports, the buses will be sent from Agra and Jhansi to Kota, where thousands of students across the country stay to prepare for competitive examinations by taking coaching classes at various institutes.

A total of 45 suspected patients of novel coronavirus were tested negative here in this district on late Thursday.
According to Faridkot District Health Department, around 51 samples were sent for testing out of which 45 samples were found negative.
Out of the remaining, 4 samples were sent for re-checking while the report of other two samples is still awaited.
A 70-year-old patient died on Friday due to Coronavirus in Kashmir valley, taking the total number of deaths due to the infection to five in the Union Territory of J&K.
Official sources said that the elderly patient, who was tested positive earlier this month, died at S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) hospital, Bemina on Friday afternoon.
They said the patient, a resident of Sopore, was admitted about a week back in the hospital.
Number of containment zones in Delhi rises to 60

The number of COVID-19 containment zones in the national capital increased to 60 on Thursday.
The number has increased to 60 after the addition of new areas which includes Gali No. 6, A Block, Abul Fazal Enclave, Shaheen Bagh and Gali No. 3, 4 and 5 in East Ram Nagar, Shahdara.
All these areas added under COVID-19 containment zones have been sealed.
India registers 13,387 confirmed cases, 437 deaths; 1,748 cured

The Novel Coronavirus cases on Friday morning crossed 13,000-mark in the country with the figure now standing at 13,387, Union Health Ministry said on Friday.
Deaths due to the deadly virus across the nation have risen to 437 with 23 fresh deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
Active cases of COVID-19 in the country at present are 11,201, while the number of cases cured and discharged have witnessed some improvement with the figure now at 1,748, health ministry data showed.
Cases in the worst COVID hit state in the country -- Maharashtra, have again witnessed a spike with the number now standing at 3,205 and 194 casualties, followed by the national capital where the cases spiked to 1,640, and 38 casualties.

District Magistrate Kumar Prashant said that two individuals were found to be positive for the novel coronavirus on Wednesday night. One of them is a resident of Mohalla Jalandhari Sarai in the city and had returned home from Delhi on March 24.
The second individual had come in contact with a person associated with the Tablighi Jamaat event who was residing in a Mosque situated in the Bhawanipur Khalli village in the Sahaswan tehsil area.
Positive cases in Pakistan touches 6,505 with 124 deaths

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases have risen to 6,505 in Pakistan with 124 deaths, according to the data updated by the country's health ministry on Thursday morning.
The data revealed that while 17 patients died, a whopping 520 persons tested positive during the last 24 hours across the country. The eastern Punjab province is the most affected region of the country with a total of 3,217 positive cases followed by the southern Sindh province which has 1,668 confirmed cases.
Besides, 912 cases were registered in the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, 280 in southwest Balochistan province and 237 in north Gilgit-Baltistan region, and 145 in the capital Islamabad. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 42 deaths followed by 41 in Sindh and 34 in Punjab.
Overall, 4,736 active patients are under treatment in different hospitals while 1,645 have been discharged after complete recovery. The percentage of recovered patients has increased to 25.3 percent from 15.2 per cent recorded on Saturday.
Seven more test positive in Panchkula, tally at 14

The sector was sealed on Wednesday.
The woman, who was tested positive on Tuesday, reportedly had no travel history.
Deputy Commissioner Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, while speaking to the media, said that the woman had travelled to Pathankot on March 18.
COVID-19 toll in India rises to 414

The toll in Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 in India soared further to settle at 414 on Thursday morning amid the identification of 170 hotspots across the country by the central government.
As per the government figure, 12,380 people including 1,489 cured and 414 deceased have been infected with the contagion in different parts of India.
Among the states, Maharashtra has the highest number of COVID-19 patients (2,916) followed by the national capital Delhi (1,578).
Meanwhile, the Indian government has identified 170 districts as coronavirus hotspots and 207 others as potential ones amid the ongoing lockdown which has been extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi till May 3.
All six metros - Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad -have been included in the "hotspot (red zone) classification". As many as 123 districts have been identified as "large outbreaks."
Pakistan seeks hydroxychloroquine from India to combat Coronavirus outbreak

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Wednesday went into self-quarantine after meeting a Congress MLA who has tested positive for the deadly Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19, media reports said.
The Gujarat government has reportedly said Rupani will stay in self-isolation as a precautionary measure.
Congress MLA Imran Khedawala, who has tested positive for COVID-19, along with some other lawmakers from the party on Tuesday held a meeting with Rupani at the Chief Minister's residence here.
The meeting was also attended by several top government officials.
However, Rupani will perform all his administrative duties via video conference.

Six more test positive in Haryana, 190 affected

With six fresh positive Coronavirus cases surfacing in Haryana, the tally of COVID-19 positive patients rose to 190 in the state on Wednesday.
According to an official bulletin, three persons have been tested positive for Coronavirus in Nuh district and one case each from Panipat, Panchkula and Sonepat districts.
In Haryana, Nuh district leads the tally with 48 positive cases, follows by Faridabad 33, Gurugram 32, Palwal 29, Ambala seven, Karnal and Panchkula six each, Panipat five, Sirsa and Sonepat four each, Yamunanagar three, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Hisar, Jind and Bhiwani two each and Fatehabad, Rohtak and Charkhi Dadri districts recorded one case each.
As many as 7,098 samples, 190 samples were found positive, 5,291 negative while reports of 1,617 were awaited. There were 146 active cases in the state.

29 new cases take tally to 1,034 in Rajasthan

With 29 more testing positive on Wednesday in Rajasthan, the total number of infected people in the state has reached 1,034.
According to the report released by the Medical Department, 15 new corona positives were found in Jaipur, while seven new cases have been reported in Jodhpur and Kota. With this, the number of infected has reached 468 in Jaipur, 102 in Jodhpur and 64 in Kota.
The report said that five were affected in Ajmer, seven in Alwar, 53 in Banswara, 20 in Bharatpur, 28 in Bhilwara, 34 in Bikaner, 14 in Churu, 11 in Dausa, one in Dholpur, five in Dugarpur, Jaisalmer 29, 31 in Jhunjhunu, three in Karauli, two in Pali, two in Sikar, 59 in Tonk, four in Udaipur, two in Pratapgarh, six in Nagaur, 64 in Kota, 15 in Jhalawar, one in Badmer and two Hanumangarh.
The report further said that 147 reports have been tested negative from positive and 74 people have been discharged from the hospital
As many as 34,928 samples have been taken and 1034 cases were positive, 29376 negative and 4518 reports were still remaining.
Meghalaya doctor dies from Covid-19, six relatives and helpers test positive

A Meghalaya doctor on Wednesday morning died becoming the first Covid-19 patient and victim of the northeastern state while six more positive cases were confirmed among his family members and helpers.
Confirming the report, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that six people who are the family members and helpers of the first COVID-19 positive patient of the state have tested positive.
Thus a total of seven positive cases for COVID-19 have been detected in Meghalaya so far.
The 69-year-old senior doctor of a Shillong based hospital was tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday. He passed away at Bethany Hospital in Shillong.
The Meghalaya Chief Minister further said following the first COVID-19 positive case, the hospital has been completely sealed and samples of the doctor’s family members, his helpers have been collected and out of 68 tested samples six have come out positive.
Indian govt issues revised guidelines for Coronavirus lockdown

The Indian government on Wednesday issued revised guidelines to be followed in the country till May 3 as the nation entered its second phase of the extended lockdown to combat COVID-19.
The directions have been issued by the Indian government just a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended the national lockdown during his national address.
According to the guidelines, travel by air, rail and road, operation of educational and training institutions, industrial and commercial activities, hospitality services, cinema halls and shopping complexes will remain closed during the period.
The government statement said all social, political and other events and opening of all religious places will also remain shut.
As per the guidelines, the government has made the use of homemade face covers at workplace and public places mandatory.

The total number of positive Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 cases in India increased to 11,439 as the South Asian country of massive 1.3 billion people entered into the second phase of an unprecedented nationwide lockdown on Wednesday.
As per the government update, 1,306 people of 11,439 have been cured while 377 others have died in Coronavirus.
According to John Hopkins University & Medicine, 11,487 people have been infected with the contagion.

Israel has registered 282 more Coronavirus cases over the past day, bringing the total number of those infected to 11,868, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
The health ministry said that one more patient had died overnight from the coronavirus disease, bringing the death toll to 117 people.
According to the ministry, 181 people were in critical condition and 136 were receiving lung ventilation; 186 patients were in moderate condition.
The ministry added that 2,000 Israeli citizens have fully recovered from COVID-19 so far.

Taking to Tweeter, Odisha Health and Family Welfare Department said “It is indeed a pleasure to share that another five Covid patients, all of Bhubaneswar, have recovered and tested negative for COVID-19."

Nongenarian dies of COVID-19, toll jumps to 12 in Tamil Nadu

A nonagenarian, who was tested positive for coronavirus, died at the Karur Government Medical College Hospital on Tuesday, taking the number of COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu to 12.
A bullet-in from the Health and Family welfare department in Chennai said the 96-year-old male, hailing from Dindugul, was admitted to the hospital at 1600 hrs on April nine.
He died at 0640 hrs this morning due to severe breathing problems without responding to treatment, it said.
Pune registers 42 new cases, 326 cases

With 42 new cases reported in Pune, the total number of Coronavirus positive cases has reached 326, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.
According to district health officer (DHO) Bhagwan Pawar, 32 people have lost their lives to the infection whereas 39 have been cured till now.
He said out of 326, 274 patients were from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas, while 34 were from Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) jurisdiction, 11 were from Pune rural (six in Baramati, two in Haveli, one each from Junnar, Shirur and Mulshi), six were from Pune cantonment board (PCB) area, while one is from Khadki cantonment board (KCB) limit.

Delhi witnesses sharpest spike in COVID-19 cases, 356 new infections in last 24 hours

Positive cases rise to 523 in Uttar Pradesh

The number of positive patients by Coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh rose to 523 on Monday after 40 new cases were detected.
Head of the isolation ward, King George Medical University (KGMU) Sudhir Kumar said on Sunday night that 740 samples were tested in which 40 were found positive.
According to him, of these new cases, 30 were found in Agra followed by four each in Lucknow and Ferozabad and two in Bulandshahr.
He added that all the 30 new patients of Agra were admitted at SN Medical college while the two new positive cases in Bulandshahr were the wife and son of an Auryavedic doctor, who died due to the virus recently. Both the mother and son were being treated in Delhi in hospital.
At present, five people have lost their lives so far to the the virus while 46 people have recovered of the spread out in 41 districts of the total 75.
Maharashtra extends lockdown till Apr 30

Joining a list of states, Maharashtra on Monday extended the lockdown in the state till Apr 30.
The nationwide lockdown, which was called by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Mar 24 to contain the COVID-19 spread, is due to end on Apr 14 midnight.

12 new positive cases reported in Andhra Pradesh, death toll rises to 7

Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a steady rise in Coronavirus positive cases with 12 new active cases reported during the last 12 hours taking the total number of cases to 432 in the state.
The Coronavirus has claimed 7 lives so far.
A health bulletin here on Monday said that 12 new Coronavirus positive cases were reported during the last 12 hours from 9 pm on Sunday night to 9 am this morning.
Italy Records Lowest Daily COVID-19 Death Toll in 3 Weeks - Official

Italy has recorded 431 coronavirus deaths in the past 24 hours, which is the smallest overnight increase in the country in three weeks, Angelo Borrelli, the head of the National Civil Protection Department, said on Sunday, adding that the total number of COVID-19 fatalities stood at 19,899.
This is the lowest daily death toll since March 19, when 427 fatalities were recorded.
On March 27, Italian authorities reported the highest number of deaths in a day – 969.
As of Sunday, the total count of COVID-19 cases in Italy has increased to 102,253.
387 new COVID-19 cases reported in UAE, 4,123 in total

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday announced 387 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 4,123.
The UAE's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said in a statement the new cases include many nationalities. All are in stable condition and receiving medical treatment.
As many as 92 more patients have made full recovery from the virus, taking the tally of the UAE's recoveries to 680, according to the Ministry.
The Ministry also confirmed two more death, pushing the country's death toll to 22.
The UAE was the first among the Gulf countries to report COVID-19 cases.
France's coronavirus deaths reach 14,393, ICU cases continue to decrease

As of Sunday, the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in France totalled 14,393, representing a one-day increase of 561, down from Saturday's 643, while serious cases decreased for the fourth straight day.
Daily deaths recorded in hospitals rose by 315 to 9,253 compared with 345 recorded on Saturday and 554 on Friday. Deaths in nursing homes increased by 251 to 5,140 since the epidemic started on March 1, according to the data released by the Health Ministry.
A total of 6,845 COVID-19 patients are being treated in intensive care units, down from 6,883 on Saturday. The decrease, for the fourth day in a row, gave the French health system small but much-needed relief.
In total, 31,826 COVID-19 patients are being treated in hospitals, up by 1,688 from a day before. Meanwhile, 825 more patients recovered, bringing the total recoveries to 27,186 since early March.
Death toll in India touches 308

The Ministry of Health on Monday confirmed that 308 people have died due to COVID-19 in the country so far.
The Ministry said 9,152 people have been infected by the virus so far.
Maharashtra still has the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 1985 patients.
The Ministry said 856 people have been cured or discharged from the hospital so far.
