Karnataka crisis: For third consecutive day, Opposition stage walk-out in Lok Sabha

New Delhi, July 11 (UNI): For the third consecutive day, Congress, DMK, Trinamool Congress and other opposition parties on Thursday staged walkout in the Lok Sabha registering their protest over political developments in Karnataka and Goa.

As soon as the Zero Hour began and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi finished speaking on farmers' issue, Congress floor leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was up on his feet and said BJP was indulging in "poaching politics" in Karnataka and Goa.

The reference to Goa political situation comes close on the heels of ten Congress MLAs quitting the party and joining the BJP.

For the fourth consecutive day, the issue of alleged political destabilisation in Congress ruled states was raised by Congress leader Mr Chowdhury and others.

Mr Chowdhury said: "Constitution is being murdered."

Ten Goa Congress MLAs who quit party and joined BJP on Wednesday arrived here for possible interaction with senior BJP leaders including BJP president Amit Shah and working president J.P. Nadda.

The high political drama in Goa unfolded in a rather unprecedented manner amid major political crisis being confronted by the Congress in Karnataka.

Congress legislators – Chandrakant Kavalekar, Atanasio Monserrate, Jennifer Monserrate, Nilkant Halarnkar, Tony Fernandes, Francis Silveira, Wilfred De Sa, Filipe Neri Rodgrigues, Clafasio Dias and Isidore Fernandes quit Congress and announced in Goa that the splinter group - ten of them out of fifteen - have "merged with the BJP".

On Tuesday, defence minister Rajnath Singh has said in the House: "It is unfortunate that they (Congress) are unable to control their own house and dragging the matter into the Lower House of Parliament and disturbing its functioning."

Amid the din, Congress members led by Mr Chowdhury and other parties staged walkout.
