New Delhi/IBNS: Two Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bharadwaj were on Wednesday denied entry into the Delhi chief minister's residence after they intended to verify whether their leader Arvind Kejriwal had indeed turned the CM's official residence into a luxurious place during his tenure using public money as claimed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Dramatic scenes unfolded as the two AAP leaders, who were leading the media to the CM's residence for a tour, were stopped by barricades placed by police who are under the control of the BJP-ruled Centre.

"BJP's lie has been exposed in front of the whole country. Police stopped us from entering the Chief Minister's residence," said Sanjay Singh on X soon after he was denied entry into the CM's residence.

The leaders then turned their cars towards the prime minister's residence intending to show the revamp as claimed by the AAP.

"BJP trapped in its own net. BJP sent huge police force to hide Modi's palace," Singh, who along with his colleague were stopped by police, wrote on X.

The controversy began after the BJP targeted Kejriwal alleging he made expensive renovations and turned the CM's residence into 'Sheesh Mahal' during his tenure.

In a bid to dampen the BJP's charge, the AAP offered the media a tour to the CM's residence and also challenged the BJP to throw open the gates of PM's residence to establish transparency.

The ruling party of Delhi called the PM's residence 'Raj Mahal' alleging Rs. 2,700 crore were spent for the renovation.

The political landscape of Delhi has heated up in the run up to the assembly elections, which will be held in a single phase on February 5. The results will be declared on the 8th of the same month.
