CWG begins with a dazzling opening ceremony
A 40,000 capacity crowd in the stadium and billions across the globe witnessed the dancing and singing performances which made the opening ceremony special.
The ceremony marked the diversity of Glasgow.
The sporting event, which was last held in Indian capital New Delhi in 2010, was declared open by the British Queen Elizabeth II.
More than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations will compete for the next 11 days for the three medals of honours for their nations.
Starting with India and ending with host Scotland, athletes from 71 nations paraded in the stadium. The Indian contingent was led by shooter Vijay Kumar.
During the ceremony, a minute's silence for the victims of the Malaysian Airlines crash was observed.
Wearing armbands and carrying their flag at half-mast the Malaysian team entered the stadium.
The events will be held July 23 to Aug 3.
