More than 1000 trees razed in Mumbai's Aarey, 60 people arrested

Mumbai, Oct 5 (UNI/IBNS) More than 1000 trees in Mumbai's Aarey Colony have been cut till now despite massive protests against the move to cut down over 2500 trees in the area for a Mumbai metro depot.

Mumbai: At least 200 activists have been detained and all roads leading to Aarey blocked as authorities began bulldozing trees for the construction of a Mumbai metro depot within hours of dismissal of all legal petitions by Bombay High Court against felling of 2,500 trees for the project.
