Maharashtra records alarming rise in Covid cases, over 43k test positive, 249 die

Mumbai/UNI: The worst pandemic-hit state of India-Maharashtra-on Thursday witnessed the biggest spike of 43,183 new COVID-19 cases and 249 deaths in the last 24 hours.

The fresh 'massive' surge in cases has taken the infections tally to 28,56,163, while the death toll soared to 54,898.

On a positive note, as many as 32,641 people have recovered from the deadly virus. Till now, 24,33,368 people have been cured and discharged in the state, since the onset of the pandemic.

The recovery rate which was rising in the previous month has now fallen to 85.20 per cent, owing to the sudden spurt in cases.

On the testing front, as many as 1,99,75,341 people have been so far tested for the millennium scourge with the fatality rate standing at 1.92 per cent.

The state still has an active caseload of 3,66,533 patients, undergoing treatment at different Covid care centres and hospitals.
