Want to sleep better? Samsung health's new update makes coaching easier to start

Samsung Electronics has announced a major update to its Samsung Health app, making Sleep Coaching easier to access by reducing the amount of sleep data required to get started.

The update also introduces more personalised sleep guidance, enhanced analysis reports and expanded training levels in Running Coach to help users develop healthier, long-term routines.

While sleep tracking tells users how they slept, Sleep Coaching aims to help them improve their sleep by translating personal goals and sleep data into actionable daily habits.

Samsung Health Lowers Sleep Coaching Data Requirements

Samsung has made it easier for users to begin managing their sleep. With the latest update, users can start Sleep Coaching with just three days of sleep data collected within the previous two weeks, down from the earlier requirement of seven days of data within a month.

During setup, users complete a survey covering sleep regularity, nighttime interruptions, alcohol and caffeine consumption, and their overall satisfaction with sleep.

Using the survey responses and three days of sleep data, Samsung Health assigns users a personalised Sleep Animal symbol and creates a tailored coaching programme lasting four to eight weeks, depending on their individual goals.

As users progress, the programme adjusts its weekly recommendations to reflect changes in sleep patterns, daily sleep satisfaction and lifestyle habits.

Based on principles of behavioural sleep science, the programme offers daily checklists and practical tips to encourage healthier routines. These include avoiding screens for an hour before bedtime, limiting late caffeine consumption and stretching outdoors after waking up.

New Sleep Balance Graph Offers Detailed Insights

The update introduces more intuitive and detailed sleep analysis reports. A new pentagon-shaped Sleep Balance graph brings together five key indicators: sleep duration, sleep regularity, nighttime awakenings, sleep satisfaction and Energy Score.

The visualisation offers users an at-a-glance overview of their sleep trends and highlights areas that may require attention, using data collected or entered through Sleep Coaching.

Daily morning insights will also provide feedback on the previous night's sleep, accompanied by practical suggestions. These insights are integrated with weekly and final programme reports to give users a more comprehensive picture of their progress.

By connecting everyday habits with data-driven feedback, Samsung Health aims to help users establish sustainable routines that support their overall well-being.

Samsung Expands Running Coach to 12 Training Levels

Responding to the growing popularity of running, Samsung has upgraded Running Coach to deliver a more dynamic and connected training experience.

The number of training levels has increased from 10 to 12, with new tiers designed to support intermediate and advanced runners. Users will continue to receive personalised training plans based on the results of a 12-minute running test or their historical running data.

The additional levels are intended to help runners set more ambitious goals, challenge themselves and steadily improve their performance.

To recognise achievements and maintain motivation, Running Coach also introduces an enhanced social media sharing feature. Users can export workout data into ready-to-share templates designed for different social platforms, allowing them to showcase milestones, personal records and route highlights.

Samsung Health Adds Strava Route Integration

Samsung is also strengthening connectivity across its health and fitness ecosystem through its partnership with Strava, the global fitness platform.

The integration allows users to import their favourite Strava routes for running, trail running and cycling directly into Samsung Health, offering greater convenience for people who use both platforms.

“Samsung Health’s personalized coaching empowers users to understand their health data, taking a step toward supporting everyday wellness,” said Hon Pak, senior vice president and head of the Digital Health Team for the Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics.

He added that Samsung would continue to leverage the Galaxy ecosystem and its technology to develop a trusted health platform.

The upgraded features will be rolled out progressively through Samsung Health app updates starting in October.
