Mumbai, Nov 3 (IBNS):  A man-eater tigress was killed in Maharashtra's Borati-Warud area on Friday, media reports said.

The identity of the tiger is known as Avni.

The tigress had allegedly killed 13 people.

A shoot-at-sight order had been issued by the state’s principal chief conservator of forest (PCCF) last month and was endorsed by the Supreme Court, reported Hindustan Times.

Nawab Shafath Ali Khan, the sharp-shooter, who was engaged in the operation to tranquilise the tigress, had gone to Bihar, where he is member of state wildlife board. In his absence, his son Asghar Ali, who is a tracker, sighted the tigress on Friday night, the newspaper report said further.

The tigress was reportedly killed on spot.

Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with the news of the tigress death with even celebrities reacting over the issue on several online platforms.

Actress Raveena Tandon tweeted: "Sad Day.China has reversed Ban on Tiger/Rhino products for medicinal uses. While on home ground Despite all efforts,#Avni has been shot dead by the hunters, a leopard killed in Hit in run in Virar,Idiocy Reigns.Losing battle for our wildlife in Man Politics and Animal conflict."

Actor Siddharth said: "#TigerConservation is something most of us have given voice to. Can we please condemn the murder of #Avni without any whataboutery? Our children will not know what a tiger is at this rate. Violating norms to kill our national animal is a bleeding #shame! What a horrible tragedy!"

Actress Dia Mirza said: "The way this has gone down, despite the media glare and public outcry is just shocking. Cannot believe they have done this to her. T1 Avni’s murder is unconscionable. "

Actress Koena Mitra tweeted: "National Shame! #Avni lost the battle to the most horrible species living on this planet! Ashamed to be a human.

Aaditya, son of Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, remarked: "Let’s rename the Ministry of Forests as Ministry of Poaching. It’s anyway a sham! #Avni."
