US: Terrifying moment at Yellowstone National Park when giant bison charges SUV, leaves tyre shredded

Yet another tense wildlife encounter at Yellowstone National Park in the United States has gone viral after a bull bison was caught on camera charging into an SUV and puncturing one of its tyres while traffic was at a standstill.

According to US media reports, the incident was filmed by visitor Tonya Names and shared on TikTok last week.

In the video's caption, Names said she had begun rolling up her car window as her vehicle slowly approached the SUV ahead when the massive bison suddenly rammed it. The impact was so forceful that it punctured one of the SUV's tyres, with the video capturing the unmistakable sound of air hissing out of the damaged wheel, the New York Post reported.

It was not immediately clear how many people were inside the SUV at the time of the attack. No injuries were reported in the latest incident.

The video comes just weeks after another alarming bison encounter at Yellowstone. Earlier this month, a tourist was injured after a bull bison charged at him and tossed him about eight feet into the air at the park.

The attack occurred at the Bridge Bay Campground, south of Fishing Bridge, according to professional photographer Mike MacLeod of Bozeman, Montana, who witnessed the incident and later spoke to Cowboy State Daily.

MacLeod said the man had been walking with his grandson when the agitated bison suddenly charged.

"I was just trying to get some dramatic footage of that bison having a fit," MacLeod told Cowboy State Daily. "It's changed my idea of what to expect from these guys at this time of year, because I would not have predicted that happening."

Yellowstone National Park authorities routinely advise visitors to stay at least 25 yards (23 metres) away from bison, as the animals can run up to three times faster than humans and may become aggressive if they feel threatened.
