Plasma therapy in experimental stage, not yet for COVID-19 treatment unless ICMR approves it: Health Ministry

New Delhi/IBNS: The Indian government on Tuesday said using plasma therapy for COVID-19 treatment is currently in an experimental stage and there is 'no evidence to support that it can be used in treatment'.

"The Indian Council of Medical Research has stated very clearly that currently there is no approved therapy for COVID19 including Plasma therapy," Health Ministry Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal said during the daily press briefing.

"Plasma therapy is one of the therapies which is being experimented with, however there is no evidence to support that it can be used in treatment," he said.

The official also informed the nation that the doubling rate of coronavirus cases now stands at 10.2 days.

India has registered 937 COVID-19 related deaths so far.

There are currently 22010 active cases in the nation, as per the Ministry of Health released data.

So far, 7026 people have bee discharged from the hospital.
