110 of all budget announcements have been achieved: Prabhu

Kolkata, Jan 8 (IBNS) The Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has said that as part of better customer service, the Ministry of Railways is working on many initiatives and about 110 of all budget announcements have been achieved.

He said that priority areas are; to improve ticketing and booking services; refunding; better quality of food and provision of food items of choice to the customers; cleanliness in the railway stations and inside the trains and linen supplied to passengers.

He was addressing the gathering after flagging of three new trains, announcing five new train services and extension of existing four EMU/DMU services of South Eastern Railway in Kolkata, on Friday.

Prabhu also launched the App for paperless ticketing system and inaugurated the display of first AC Locomotive at Railway Museum of Eastern Railway.

Prabhu also launched the announcements of work of lowering of tunnel boring machines and recommencement of casting of tunnel segments at Howrah Maidan by KMRLC.

Referring to cleanliness drive initiated by Railways across the country, Prabhu urged public to collaborate with Railways in the endeavour.

He also mentioned the initiatives to improve efficient use of power or energy in Railways and said that during the next few years, Railways will be one of the big green power producers in the country.

He said that solar panels are being put on the roof top of coaches to generate solar powers.

Prabhu also emphasised the need of track renewal to reduce traffic congestion and mentioned that initiatives have been taken to address the issues on Kolkata – Delhi sector.

The Railway Minister also observed that the Government is working with Japan to improve entire Railway operation in the country and assured that his Ministry is in the process of addressing large number of backlog issues which have resulted due to long years of inaction.

Referring to passenger safety the Minister stated that an App has been developed in Kolkata to help women in  distress and all the General Managers have been provided with ‘Twitter Handles’ to address the complaints on real time basis.

However, he appealed to public not to misuse and abuse these facilities by making prank calls.
