Akhilesh Yadav dissolves all Samajwadi Party units week after LS bypoll defeat

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has dissolved all national, state and district units of the party in a move to overhaul its administration after a huge debacle in the recently held Uttar Pradesh bypolls.

Taking a cue from SP's defeat in its traditional bastions, Rampur and Azamgarh, Akhilesh is aiming at a complete revamp of the party in an attempt to prevent a wipeout in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, especially after the polls in the recent past made it amply clear that vote bank calculations based on caste and religion might not always prove correct.

Amid the sweeping reshuffle, SP's Uttar Pradesh president has been retained in his position.

"The national president of Samajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav, except for the state president of the party, with immediate effect dissolved party's national, state and district executive bodies. National presidents, state presidents, district presidents of all the party's organisations, including youth and women's wings, have also been dissolved," the party said on its Twitter handle.

Media reports said citing a senior SP leader that the party is gearing up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and the focus is to strengthen the organisation to take on the BJP with full force.
