Kolkata: A Bangladeshi woman died and two others, including another Bangladeshi national, were injured in a fire that broke out in a guest house at Mirza Ghalib Street (Free School Street) in central Kolkata in the early hours of Saturday.

According to reports, the fire was first seen near the guest house's reception located on the first floor of the building, and it spread quickly to other rooms on the same floor.

Three fire tenders rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control.

Officials said several Bangladeshi nationals were there in the guest house and almost all of them were evacuated.

A Bangladeshi woman identified as Samimatul Aros (61), a resident of Chapainawabganj in Bangladesh, was killed in the fire.

The woman came to Kolkata for medical treatment, reports said.

Two others, including another Bangladeshi citizen Moinul Haque (35) and Mehtab Alam from Murshidabad, were injured in the incident and were admitted to a local hospital.

Police and fire department have started an investigation into the cause of the fire.
