Cattle smuggling case: Actor-turned TMC MP Dev appears before CBI

Kolkata/UNI: Tollywood superstar and TMC MP Dev alias Deepak Adhikari on Tuesday appeared before the CBI's investigating officials at Nizam Palace in the city, responding to summons from the federal probe agency in connection with the cattle smuggling case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation's anti-corruption wing summoned the Ghatal (Midnapur district) Lok Sabha member to question him regarding cattle smuggling/trafficking in which several persons have already been grilled or arrested.

The 40-year-old Bengali movie star, who also produces and sings in films, arrived at around 10-50 AM at the agency's Nizam Palace office in south Kolkata.

Sources said the actor was taken to the 15th floor where the investigating officials were ready with a questionnaire for him related to the cattle smuggling case.

Sources said the CBI, during its investigation, has seized a diary in which many names, including that of the actor, were found.

Meanwhile, the CBI has once again summoned TMC's Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal to appear before it on Feb 25 at Nizam Palace in relation to the case.

Mondal, who was supposed to appear before the central probe agency on Tuesday morning, skipped the hearing citing personal reasons.

Mondal's lawyers came to the CBI office instead and requested another eight weeks' time claiming Mondal had health issues and several pre-occupations.

However, the CBI issued a fresh date of summons for Feb 25.
