Harish Rawat announces special initiative for students

Dehradun, Nov 23 (IBNS) : Having announced his intention to open direct channels of communication with the youth of the state this Independence Day as part of his Youth outreach programme #CM4YOUTH, Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Harish Rawat on Monday fulfilled his promise.

Interacting with a gathering of youth that saw numbers swelling over 3,000 at a special cultural event organized by Graphic Era as part of its International Student Day week long celebration Harish Rawat unveiled his new youth outreach Facebook pagewww.facebook.com/CM4Youth and twitter handle www.twitter.com/CM4Youth.

Wishing the students on the occasion and commenting on the launch of his youth focused social properties Harish Rawat said: “If I were to talk the language of today’s youth, the two biggest USP’s of Brand Harish Rawat, to which even my most stringent detractors would agree, are my strong people’s connect and my unlimited love and dedication for my state and its people. I have always believed in teamwork and the power of many. “

“Having stated that and as I have often said before, to me the youth is not just our future but also our present and thus if we really want to bring about any credible change in our society we need to actively engage and co-opt them into our dreams and vision for a better and more equitable Uttarakhand. Further, if I need to connect with them then it is also critical that I cannot be dictatorial and lecture them on what they should eat, wear and do but would need to engage with them in a manner and fashion that is acceptable to them - be one of them, be their respected friend. My #CM4YOUTH initiative and the social properties I have launched today are all steps in that direction. I thus implore the youth of the state to also match my initiative, give me a chance and embrace these properties by sharing their thoughts and ideas through them,” added Harish Rawat.

Adding to the delight of the students Rawat also further announced his governments proposed special initiative for Uttrakhand students under which girls will be entitled to 100% waiver of ticket costs in all state owned public transport while boys will be entitled to a 50% discount, against a simple presentation of their student identity cards.

He also stated that his government would be recruiting over 30,000 youth between the age group of 18-40 years in the next year.  Of this 50% of the jobs would be reserved for women.

Announcing the special discount on state owned Public Transportation for students, Rawat said: “Education is a fundamental right for all and being a hill state the reality today is that students have to travel quite a distance daily to reach their place of learning. This means that they either have to walk quite a distance or travel by public transport adding to the financial outlay of their education, which becomes especially more critical for those students who are economically weaker. Recognizing this fact and with the core agenda of removing this hurdle or anomaly and to further encourage students towards availing of good education, my government has proposed to offer 75% discount on ticket fares for all state owned public transport for students of the state. A formal notification to this effect will be made shortly.”
