Dhaka/UNI: An Indian citizen has been arrested for entering into Bangladesh illegally, the police said on Thursday.

Raipur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shipon Barua said the Indian, identified as Rajesh (54), was arrested in Raipur, Lakshmipur and is now in police custody.

The matter has been reported to the higher authorities and necessary legal action would be taken only after receiving their instructions, he said.

During an interrogation, Rajesh said that was a resident of Punjab living in Delhi along with his family.

He had crossed the Jessore border four days ago to enter Bangladesh, he said.

He, however, did not give any reason for entering Bangladesh.

According to the police, Rajesh was walking around a tea stall in Sagardi village of Raipur on Tuesday midnight.

Finding him suspicious, the locals informed the local police.
