Srinagar: In a second gunfight in the last 12 hours, security forces shot dead two militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) during a gun battle in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday morning.

They said the gunfight broke out during a cordon and a search operation, which was launched at Chaktaras Kandi area of Kupwara following an input about the presence of militants in the area.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Vijay Kumar said two militants including a Pakistani were killed in the gun battle.

"Two terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT including one Pakistani terrorist namely Tufail killed. Search (operation is) still going on," IGP Kashmir was quoted in a police tweet.

On Monday evening, security forces shot dead a suspected Pakistani militant during a gun battle in Sopore sub-district.

Police said two foreigners and a local militant managed to escape from the cordon.
