Joe Biden calls India's stance in Russia-Ukraine war 'shaky'

Washington/New Delhi/IBNS: US President Joe Biden has called India's stance in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war "somewhat shaky" after New Delhi refused to corner Moscow unlike other allies of Washington, media reports said.

Biden lauded all allies of the US including NATO and European Union for unitedly confronting Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

The President said, "The Quad is, with the possible exception of India being somewhat shaky on some of this, but Japan has been extremely strong - so has Australia - in terms of dealing with Putin's aggression."

The US and its allies have already announced sanctions on Russia, which is waging a war with Ukraine for over 26 days, to cripple the economy of Moscow.

However, Indian oil refiners are reportedly continuing to purchase discounted oil from Moscow.

Earlier, India, which has had close ties with Russia for years, had abstained from voting against Moscow in the United Nations thrice.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged both the nations for an immediate cessation of violence noting that India has always stood for peaceful resolution of issues and direct dialogue between the two parties.
