Kolkata: Major fire breaks out at Dumdum

Kolkata, Dec 26 (IBNS): A major fire has broken out at Harichand Palli in Kolkata's Dumdum Park area on Saturday, reports said.
According to reports, the fire was first seen on Saturday evening.
 
At least 8 fire tender engines have reached the spot, which is a very congested area and many shanties are there, and firefighters are trying to bring the blaze under control. 
 
West Bengal minister for fire and emergency services and disaster management Javed Ahmed Khan told IBNS: "Fire tender engines along with portable pumps have been sent to the spot. Minister Purnendu Basu and fire officials are there. As the lanes are very narrow there, fire engines are getting trouble while entering into the area. Firefighter are trying hard to bring the fire under control."
 
WB Labour Minister Purnendu Basu, who is leading the firefighting operation there, told IBNS, "I was attending a programme nearby when was informed about the incident around 6:30 pm. and has rushed to the spot. This is a major fire. The fire is spreading very fast for one after another gas cylinder explosions. Fire fighters are giving their best here and local youths are also co-operating. Hope the situation will be brought under control very soon." 
 
"Around 300 families live here and maximum shanties have been gutted completely. We are arranging temporary accommodation and food for the homeless people for tonight," he added.
 
However, no casualty has been reported so far in the incident. Exact reason of the has not be known yet.
