New Delhi, June 28 (IBNS): After the nomination being filed by Meira Kumar for the presidential poll, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said the Opposition's proposed candidate represent values that bind all people as a nation.

The Congress vice president tweeted after Kumar filed her nomination on Wednesday morning.

"Against the ideology of divisiveness she represents the values that bind us as a nation&a ppl.Proud to have @meira_kumar ji as our candidate" Gandhi said on Twitter.

The media quoted former Lok Sabha speaker Kumar as saying that she will start her presidential campaign from Gujarat's Sabarmati Ashram.

On Tuesday,Kumar called upon all political parties to listen to the "voice of inner conscience," and said the unity of the 17 parties backing her is based on a "common ideology."

Referring to Nitish Kumar's JDU deciding to support NDA-nominee Ram Nath Kovind, Meira Kumar said  two days ago she had written a letter to all members of collegium seeking their support.

"I will decide what to do at the right time," she said.

After filing her nomination, Kumar tweeted to say, "Grateful to all my esteemed colleagues and party leaders for supporting my candidature & for accompanying me today for filing my nomination".

Kumar was accompanied by several leaders of Opposition along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former PM of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

Kovind has already filed his nomination for the presidential poll, who is in a favourable position since NDA bags the required number of electoral votes.
