Odisha: Medical student drowns in Hirakud reservoir

Sambalpur, Mar 4 (UNI) In a tragic incident, a 3rd year medical student of VSSIMSAR drowned in Hirakud reservoir today.

The deceased is identified as Sumit Singh (20) of New Delhi.

The incident took place around 1.30 pm when six boys went to the Pahadi Baba temple near Jawahar Minar in Burla end of the dam for darshan on account of Maha Sivaratri.

The students went for a bath in the reservoir before visiting the temple when the tragedy occurred.

Sumit somehow went deep into the water and drowned. His friends tried to save him but failed.

Fire brigade officials finally retrieved the body from the reservoir.

Sumit's family lives in Delhi.
