Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath drops one of his party posts, BJP says wings clipped

Bhopal/IBNS: Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, who was heading two-party posts, has been relieved of one, reports said.

The development happened under the party's "One man one post" rule.

In a letter on Thursday, Congress said his resignation from the post has been accepted by party chief Sonia Gandhi.

The letter from senior leader KC Venugopal, accessed by media, also said Dr Govind Singh has now been appointed to the post of the Legislature Party leader.

The new CLP leader, Dr Govind Singh, is a seven-time time sitting MLA from Lahar seat of Bhind district of the Gwalior-Chambal region.

Singh is seen as a close confidant of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh.

"I have been raising people's issues in the Assembly in the past and will continue to do so in future also as CLP leader," Singh said.

"He (Kamal Nath) hasn't resigned but has shared his responsibilities with me. I'll work as his associate and question the BJP government over public issues," he added.

Reacting to the development, state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) media convenor Lokendra Parashar  tweeted: "Nath wings have been clipped and Govind Singh's appointment as CLP leader means return of Digvijaya Singh's era in MP Congress. May be Nath will quit as state Congress chief tomorrow, handing over the post to tribal strongman Umang Singhar."
