TMC's Derek O'Brien dares govt to suspend him for using words banned in parliament
New Delhi: After the Centre issued the list of new words banned in parliament, Congress and Trinamool Congress slammed the move, with TMC IMP Derek O'Brien saying that he will use all the prohibited words in his speech while challenging the government to suspend him for using "basic words" for "fighting for democracy".
The Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a new booklet, where it has been said that the use of terms like 'jumlajeevi', 'baal buddhi', 'Covid spreader' and 'Snoopgate' will henceforth be considered unparliamentary in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha alongside commonly used words like 'ashamed', 'abused, 'betrayed', 'corrupt', 'drama', 'hypocrisy' and 'incompetent', media reports said.

Taking a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress posted in a tweet in Hind that read, "Who will be afraid of 'Jumlajeevi' - who has given jumlas. Who will be afraid of the word 'Jaichand' - who has betrayed the country. These words are not being banned in Parliament, the fear of PM Modi is coming out."

Gujarat Congress' working president Jignesh Mevani tweeted, "Ashamed, abused, betrayed, corrupt, drama, hypocrisy, incompetent jumlajeevi, baal buddhi, Covid spreader, dohra charitra, nikamma, nautanki, dhindora peetna, behri sarkar are among the many words that will now be called unparliamentary. What's happening in the country?"

Some other words that have been listed out as against the decorum of parliament include 'anarchist', 'Shakuni', 'dictatorial', 'taanashah', 'taanashahi', 'Jaichand', 'vinash purush', 'Khalistani' and 'khoon se kheti' and will be removed if used during debates or otherwise in both the houses.
The compilation of "unparliamentary" words and expressions has been issued ahead of the monsoon session of parliament that is going to start on July 18.
