Uttar Pradesh polls: Akhilesh Yadav files nomination from Karhal

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday filed his nomination papers from Karhal seat in Mainpuri district of Uttar Pradesh.

Akhilesh Yadav, who filed his nomination paper before the district magistrate and returning officer Avinash Krishna Singh, was accompanied by SP General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav and sitting MLA Sobaran Singh Yadav.

This is the first time Akhilesh is contesting the Assembly election.

After filing his nomination, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was not willing to speak on basic issues.

"In the days to come the SP has said that it will implement old pension system and the BJP has no answer to it. By violating the model code of conduct, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary is trying to tell what is the difference between the new and old pension system," he said.

He said that as all the state government employees have been demanding the old pension scheme, therefore the Samajwadi Party will implement it.

Akhilesh Yadav thanked the party leaders and the people of Mainpuri.

"I hope they will ensure a historic victory from here. UP's election is the election of the country. With a historical change UP will move in the direction of prosperity (if SP wins)," he said.

"This 'nomination' is a 'mission' as this election will write a new history of the state and the country. Come participate in this campaign of positive politics with progressive mindset. Defeat and remove negative politics. Jai Hind," he tweeted.

Before leaving for Mainpuri, Akhilesh Yadav said the area has an old relationship with Netaji-- as party patron Mulayam Singh Yadav is known -- and the Samajwadi Party.

"People here have always stood with the SP and done positive and progressive politics. I hope that in this election also the people will defeat and remove those, who indulge in negative politics."

Karhal seat has been won by the SP since 1993 after the party came into existence in 1992, except in 2002 when the sitting MLA Sobaran Singh Yadav contested on a BJP ticket.

Thereafter, Sobaran Singh joined the Samajwadi Party and won the elections three times consecutively.
