We have been assured that the Juvenile Bill will be passed : Jyoti Singh's parents

Reports said Asha Devi and Badri Singh, who have been protesting against the release of the youngest convict in their daughter's rape and murder case,  will be present in the upper house when it debates the amendment from 2 pm. They have led the demand for a change in the concerned law that refuses to allow those below 18 years to be tried as adults.

One of the six rapists died in jail and four others have been sentenced to death. But Jyoti's youngest attacker, who was a few months short of 18 then and so could not be tried as an adult, was released on Sunday after he spent three years in a remand home. 

After the meeting, they said they have been assured the bill will be passed in the Rajya Sabha.  "The time for discussion is over. The bill should be passed. I have been assured that the bill will be passed today. If the bill had been passed six months ago, the juvenile would be in detention. But better late than never," said Asha Devi after meeting  Naqvi.

After the meeting, Naqvi  said he "strongly believes" the bill will be passed on Tuesday.  "Age doesn't matter in such heinous crimes. There is consensus among parties to pass the bill," he said.

The Lok Sabha passed the bill in the last session. In the Rajya Sabha, the government is in a minority.

On Monday, Jyoti's parents also met Congress leader in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who promised them that his party will support the bill.
