New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday interacted with the Indian contingent for Deaflympics and said he will never forget the interaction with the champions who brought pride and glory for India.

"I will never forget the interaction with our champions who have brought pride and glory for India at the Deaflympics. The athletes shared their experiences and I could see the passion and determination in them. My best wishes to all of them," the PM said in a tweet after the interaction.

The entire contingent has created history and brought smiles on the faces of every Indian, the PM said in another tweet.

India sent a contingent of 65 athletes to compete in 11 sports as the country recorded their best performance at the Deaflympics by winning 16 medals, including eight golds.

After India's impressive performance at the games, the PM said, "Every athlete of our contingent is an inspiration for our fellow citizens."

The games concluded on May 15.

A total of 72 nations took part in the games with 2267 athletes. 1521 men and 746 women participated in the event.
