Baghdad suicide bombing an act of ‘unparalleled criminality’– UN envoy

| | Apr 23, 2016, at 01:40 pm
New York, Apr 23 (Just Earth News/IBNS): The most senior UN official in Iraq has strongly condemned a terrorist suicide bombing that targeted worshippers at a mosque in Radwaniya in southern Baghdad on Friday, killing and injuring many innocent civilians.

“Targeting innocent people during Friday prayers is an act of unparalleled criminality,” said Ján Kubiš, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq, in a press release.

He offered condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured speedy recovery.

The UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) also underlined that the terrorists aim from such attacks is to weaken national unity and undermine the State.

“Da’esh terrorists benefit from the Iraqis’ divisions and disputes. The answer to such crimes is for Iraqis of all affiliations and backgrounds to redouble their efforts to work towards unity and reconciliation,”  Kubiš stressed.

He called on the Iraqi Government to do its utmost to bring those behind the terrorist attacks to justice.
