Baghdad/UNI: Four Islamic State (IS) militants were killed Wednesday in an operation in Iraq's western province of Anbar, the Iraqi military said.

Based on intelligence reports and four days of tracking, Iraq's paramilitary Hashd Shaabi forces carried out an ambush against the extremist IS militants in Anbar province and killed them all, according to a statement issued by the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command.

It added that the four militants were responsible for the killing of two people several days ago, the process of which was posted on social media in pictures.

The security situation in Iraq has improved since the defeat of the IS in 2017. However, IS remnants have since melted into urban centers, deserts, and rugged areas, carrying out frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
